Non EU/EEA students – visa requirement in Estonia
Foreign students with residency permit for Estonia are not allowed to be covered by the Estonian Health Insurance Fund (Haigekassa).
A private medical insurance is therefore mandatory in order to guarantee that costs related to medical treatment as a result of illness or injury during the stay in Estonia will be covered.
Swisscare studentpass is accepted by the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board.
The health insurance contract must be valid in Estonia for the whole nominal study period.
EU/EEA and Swiss students must present their European health insurance card (EHIC) or its replacement certificate to prove eligibility for Estonian health care. The EHIC can be requested by the social security in the country of your nationality.
Please note that EHIC is not an alternative to travel insurance. It does not cover any travel protection, search and rescue, repatriation to the home country, emergency dental treatments, assistance… Studentpass plans will be a very affordable solution to have a full protection while you are studying in EU/EEA Countries.
Studentpass international covers mainly acute sickness and injury during your stay abroad. This means that for all unforeseen sickness or injuries, you can consult a general practitioner, specialist or visit a public hospital. For minor emergencies, we suggest visiting a general practitioner first. You will avoid long time waiting delays in a hospital emergency reception.
All benefits are limited in insurance sum. Please see our table comparison hereunder. Note that dental treatments like all other insurance covers are limited to an emergency that requires immediate intervention of a dentist. Routine dentist check, filling, krone, tooth replacement or cleaning are not covered.
Medicine is covered if prescribed by a recognized practitioner. Note the covered medicine must be in the standards of the western countries.
